It's not impossible!

A few weeks ago, I came up with a list of things I would do if money and time weren't an issue. No matter how far-fetched an idea may seem, I put it on the list.

I think I may have found a compromise for one of the things!

Blame Project Runway, but I've had this urge to go to The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. (Yes, I know that Parsons is where the Project Runway designers do their thang. FIT is where Daniel Vosovic went to school, and I'm more excited about FIT because they have an exchange program with Nottingham Trent University, which apprently has an amazing knitwear design program. Anyway, I digress.)

It turns out that there is going to be an intensive workshop in fashion business for knitwear and sweater design in May. Here's the description from the site:
This intensive workshop is for industry professionals and highly experienced knitters interested in learning methods of industry knitwear design. The program concentrates on all of the steps necessary to becoming a knitwear designer. Using both lecture and demonstration, fiber basics and stitch fundamentals are covered. How to present designs from concept to production is included along with a look at some of the current computeraided design programs available.

Instructors: Arnetta Kenney, adjunct instructor, Textile/Surface Design, and boutique knitwear designer; and Lisa Donofrio, adjunct assistant professor, Fashion Design-Apparel, and author and knitwear designer.

I think the course may focus a bit more on selling your knitwear designs to a clothing company rather than, say, a magazine, though the description never explicity states that. Either way, it's FIT!. And the cost isn't that bad - $185 for twelve hours. (Much less than fixing my car!) We could stay with friends, so we wouldn't have to pay for a hotel.

I don't know if I'm going to go or not, but it would be pretty awesome.

It sounds like you would learn a lot! If you want to do it, I say go for it! Get down with your bad knitwear designing self!
