Free Pattern: Confection in Finnish!

A HUGE thank you to Sara for the translation!!

Knit top-down, this quick knit has minimal seaming.

Epitome

Now available on Ravelry!

I love wearing hats, but I’m very picky about them. Epitome is my idea of the perfect hat. The braid cable satisfies the cable-addict in me, and the decreases are done in a manner that allows the cable to continue all the way to the top. Knit in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky, this hat can be made so quickly you’ll want to knit one for every member of the family!

SIZE
Baby [Toddler, Child, Adult] (shown in size Adult)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Actual circumference: 11[ 13, 15, 18] inches
Fits head circumference: 14[16, 18, 20 - 21] inches
Length: 5[6, 7, 8] inches

MATERIALS
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky [55% Merino wool, 33% Microfibre, 12% Cashmere; 82 yd/75 m per 50g skein];

Note: for smaller sizes, more than one hat can be made per skein of Cashmerino Superchunky. An acceptable substitute is one skein of Brown Sheep Company Lamb's Pride Bulky.

1 set US #11/8mm double-point needles
1 16-inch US #11/8mm circular needle
Stitch marker
Cable needle
Tapestry needle

Free Pattern: Monday Night Hat

I used to spend every Monday night listening to live jazz at a local pizza pub. I always brought along my yarn and needles. One Monday night I decided to improvise with my knitting and switch from English to Continental style. I created this simple hat as a way to practice Continental style knitting. This is the perfect pattern for a beginner, or a beginner to a new concept.

SIZE
One size fits most adults.

MATERIALS
Mission Falls 1824 Wool in color 535 [100% merino superwash; 85 yd per 50g ball]; 2 balls
1 set US #7/4.5mm double-point needles
1 16-inch US #7/4.5mm circular needle
1 16-inch US#6/4.0 mm circular needle
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle

Note: Approximately 160 yards of any worsted weight yarn would work! Other yarn choices might include Cascade 220, Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted, or Noro Kureyon.

GAUGE
4.5sts/rows = 4" in St st with larger needles.

(basic) monday night hat pattern coming soon!

I just remembered that a long time ago, I wrote up a pattern for this hat (the purple one):

Since I have the pattern, might as well share it, right? I am having one person to test knit it to make sure there are no glaring mistakes, but as soon as I hear back from her/format the pattern, it will be available. I'm setting a tentative release date for March 15.

This is a perfect pattern for beginners, or beginners to a new technique. (I created the hat to practice knitting Continental style).

The baby shrug (see this post for pictures) will be out REALLY close to Saturday. I'm still shooting for March 1 - I just need one last test knitter to get back to me. She had the biggest size, so it's only fair that it's taken a little longer. (The pattern is sized for three months to 24 months - and there's a big difference in a three month old and a 24 month old!) ETA: Wow - it just hit me that March 1 is tomorrow. The pattern will likely be available early next week.

If you're on Ravelry, you can type "Confection" in the pattern search and see what my test knitters have made. There's also a group on Ravelry - Shizknitters - for people that would like to be test knitters or have questions about the patterns I've written.

Ch-ch-changes

You may have noticed some differences to the blog -- obviously it's gotten brighter! There are also some new videos of Craig from the Bluegrass Meets Jazz gig.

The Little Boy Blue Pattern has been changed as well in order to fix some problems. Thanks, Steven, for pointing them out!

I plan to re-add the links and all the sidebar stuff later. But what do ya think?

** By the way, thanks to everyone that's given me eczema advice. I know it's pretty common, so we should be able to keep Leo's skin under control now.
