Ben Sollee (with Craig Wagner!) at WFPK

Still super busy, still no tutorial BUT that doesn't mean you shouldn't have some ear candy!

These videos were recorded on Wednesday at Ben Sollee's members-only performance at WFPK. My dear husband, Craig accompanied him on guitar.

Ben's at Bonnaroo this weekend, so check him out if you're there! And if you're in the Louisville area like me, you can see Craig at Speakeasy this Friday and Saturday.

These videos were recorded and edited by Keith Robbins.

"Hold Your Hand"

"How To See the Sun Rise"

"Prettiest Tree on the Mountain"

"A Few Honest Words"

"A Change is Gonna Come"

"Panning for Gold"

"Bury Me With My Car"

Tonight - Liberation Prophecy!

Okay, so you may have heard me mention that my husband is a musician.

Tonight he will be playing with the band Liberation Prophecy at the 930 Listening Room. The show starts at 8 and is an all-ages event, so you can bring the whole family (I'm taking Leo - he never gets to hear his daddy anywhere except our living room.)

The show is part of the annual Cultivate Beauty festival, which is a pretty rad concept - "The idea is to put energy into cultivating something beautiful, something that lasts, something more satisfying than the shallow instant-gratification that fills most of our days." As part of the festival, there's an art exhibit and film festival.

By the way, as much as I love Liberation Prophecy (you really can't describe the music. I challenge you to try!), the opening act is a group I'm really excited about. Casey Driessen (Grammy nominee!) and his band the Colorfools are going to bring some fiddlin' madness to the 930, and I can't wait.

So, basically, if you live in the Louisville area, you have a little over three hours to arrange your plans so you can go to this show. I promise, you'll have a good time.

listen!

TODAY! Craig Wagner (a.k.a. my hubby) will be joining Ben Sollee in Cincinnati for some unbelievable music. Even if you don't live in Cincinnati, you can still hear them! Just tune in to Bearcast Radio (you can listen online) around 4:30.

If you DO live in the area, Ben and Craig will be opening for Kim Taylor at the Northside Tavern at 10 P.M.

Just doing my wifely duty and spreading the word about my man's gigs.

Check 'em out - Leo and Craig! Aww.

Ch-ch-changes

You may have noticed some differences to the blog -- obviously it's gotten brighter! There are also some new videos of Craig from the Bluegrass Meets Jazz gig.

The Little Boy Blue Pattern has been changed as well in order to fix some problems. Thanks, Steven, for pointing them out!

I plan to re-add the links and all the sidebar stuff later. But what do ya think?

** By the way, thanks to everyone that's given me eczema advice. I know it's pretty common, so we should be able to keep Leo's skin under control now.

As if I didn't have enough to do . . .

I have a new obsession.

MANDOLIN!!

I only know three chords, but it's enough to make me seriously addicted. Add this in with the knitting and the playing with Leo, and I'm never going to get anything done!

Videos

In honor of my man going to Nashville next week to do some kind of video for Mel Bay (I don't know much about it, except that he wants to play "Billie Jean" and Michael Jackson's people are making that difficult for him!), I decided to post some videos that I recently discovered on the interweb.

First, you've heard me talk about Squeeze-bot . . . the group that combines accordion, banjo, drums, and sometimes tuba to make music. Here they are preforming the song "Contemplations." (You can check out their MySpace page for more vids and some music).

This is Squeeze-bot at Nachbar, playing their cover of "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" This one has the tuba, and a little-kid drum kit.

Second, Days of the New. It's not that I hate this band, it's just that I don't like them enough to buy a cd or anything like that. I find it incredibly funny that my man was in the kind of group where women asked the band members to sign their boobs. Anyway, this is the video for the song, "Enemy". You'll recognize Craig easily -- he's the only band member without either long, flowing rockstar hair or a shaved head. The day-glo purple guitar is a give-away, too (I'm pretty sure that wasn't his guitar.) It also includes a pre-Pussycat Nicole S. (I can't spell her last name), so if any guys read this blog I'm sure they'll enjoy that.

Finally, a short animated film about knitting. There are several things I don't quite get about this video, like why someone would feel the urge to knit so close to the edge of a tall mountain, or why the knitter has such a pointy nose. There are also several things I love. The yarn she's using looks like Noro, I think she's wearing a knit dress and felted slippers, and every knitter can understand the desperation.

Enjoy.

Bill Frisell

This man is an incredible guitarist.

That is all.
